Androuet
One of the oldest Parisian fromagers. The Androuet family established cheese as a serious specialty category in Paris.
Founded in 1909 by Henri Androuët, the original Rue d'Amsterdam location operated as a cheese-focused restaurant from 1936 — said to be the first Parisian restaurant where the entire menu was structured around cheese. Pierre Androuët (Henri's son) became the most influential French cheese writer of the 20th century; his "Guide du Fromage" (1971) is foundational. The original restaurant closed in the 1990s; the brand has been re-developed by subsequent owners with multiple Paris retail locations and select international expansion. The current Androuet is editorially less central than the Pierre Androuët era, but the brand history remains essential to French cheese culture.
